Join us for a Southern Foods Getaway in historic Savannah! I grew up in Southeast Georgia and can't wait to introduce you to the innovative food and the history of this gorgeous city.
During our Getaway, we will taste traditional and new-style Southern cuisine at its finest. We will explore the markets, cook together with a Southern chef and learn about the history, culture and people of this beautiful city.
Our Southern Foods Getaway will start on Friday evening and end on Wednesday morning. This Getaway is limited to eight participants.
A traditional Southern menu may feature favorites such as fried chicken or barbequed pork, along with sides such as creamed corn, potato salad, sweet potato casserole, collard greens, corn bread, biscuits, banana pudding and caramel cake. A menu in Savannah might also include traditional favorites such as Shrimp & Grits or Fried Green Tomatoes.
A "new style" Southern menu will use local Southern ingredients, such as okra, collard greens, corn, sweet potatoes, black-eyed peas and grits in innovative ways. In Savannah, many menus will also highlight the fabulous seafood of the region.
Crispy blackeyed pea cakes served with blackened shrimp and local greens
Roasted chicken with oyster and pecan stuffing (dressing) and spicy collard greens
Pecan and almond tart with peach ice cream and salted caramel sauce
Menus for prepared meals can be adjusted to accomodate food allergies with advanced notice.
Getaways in Savannah are intimate and limited to eight guests. Meals and five nights of lodging at a historic home or inn are included. Recipes are designed to prepare at home. Instruction is in English. Food allergies can be accommodated with advance notice. Travel to/from Savannah is not included. Cost for the Savannah Getaway is $4000 per person (based on double-occupancy). There is a supplement of $500 for single lodging.
